Samosa is a type of fried or baked pastry that originated in Persia around the 10th century; the name derived from the Persian word “sanbosag” which has the literal meaning of “triangular pastry”. The original recipes included mutton and nuts in the filling, however, after this delicious snack was introduced to the Indian Subcontinent many new ingredients and spices were used. In more recent times, many vegetarian and vegan varieties were invented, and it was later crowned as the “King of Snacks in Delhi”. Today, samosas can be purchased as a quick snack on the go or be served as an appetizer at gatherings as well as upscale dinner parties.
