Malaysia
Malaysian cuisines colorfully and vibrantly embrace the traditions and flavors of the indigenous people of the country, as well as Malay, Chinese and Indian influences, with a hint of Arabic, Thai and elements brought by the early European traders.
Similar to many Southeast Asian countries, rice and noodles are the staples of Malaysia; served with meat and vegetable dishes that are usually spicy, not necessarily chili-hot, but using various blends of spices, herbs, nuts and often mixed with fish or shrimp pastes to create curries or meat stews. However, there are also classic snacks such as barbecue buns, pineapple tarts, moon cakes, red tortoise cakes and tangyuan (glutinous rice dumplings) commonly sold in the Chinese communities; and pastries such as chapati and puri are more typical within the Indian neighborhoods.
